Jonathan Farr
Jonathan (Oxford UK, 1973) is currently based in Mexico City and has lived in Bristol, London and Barcelona. He graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art, London in 1997 with a BA Hons specialising in sculpture and completed a post-grad at the Royal Drawing School in 2011. His practice is rooted in drawing from observation, informing his work as animator, printmaker, painter and illustrator of children’s books.
He has been awarded the Slade Drawing Prize, the Slade Dolby Travel Grant, the RWA Moving Image Research Award, included in the Jerwood Drawing Exhibition 2010 and the Denis Mahon Award, and his animations have been screened in the London Raindance Festival, Edinburgh Short Film Festival, This is England Festival and the Animafantasia Festival.
He has exhibited and sold his work in Mexico, Spain, the UK, India and China. His illustrated children’s books have been published in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Spain and China.
He has taught art based subjects extensively for all ages and backgrounds ranging from workshops in a prison for young men in Guadalajara Mexico, to running workshops for adults with learning difficulties in Community Interest Company Workshop 305 and for the Royal Drawing School, both in London. He currently teaches stop frame animation and drawing classes online.
